A Serbian military aircraft crashed on Friday during training, killing two people, the country's ministry of defense stated in a press release.

The crash took place in the village of Slatina some 60 km south west of Belgrade.

"School-combat aircraft Super Galeb G-4, a two-seater of the Air Force of the Army of Serbia, crashed... while executing regular flight training," the defense ministry said.

The deceased pilots are identified as Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Culibrk and Captain Dejan Pandurovic, they said.

Search and rescue teams are still working with Air Force commander Major General Ranko Zivak, while Defense Minister Zoran Dordjevic is arriving at the side of the crash with an investigation team.

Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) reported the aircraft crashed near the home of the Mladenovic family in the village of Slatina and that three ambulance teams were sent to the location.

"According to eyewitnesses, the military aircraft crashed in the vicinity of their outbuildings, which caused fear, but no one got injured," RTS reported.

They reported that locals saw the plane flew low over the village and that "it was just about to fall when it made a semi-circle, tried to reposition correctly and then crashed into the valley and caught fire." Enditem
