South Korean prosecutors planned to summon the Lotte Group chief Friday for his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal embroiling former President Park Geun-hye that led to her impeachment and arrest.

The special investigation headquarters of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said on Thursday that Lotte Group chairman Shin Dong-bin will be called in as a reference witness by 9:30 a.m. local time on Friday.(S. Korea-Lotte chief)

TOKYO -- Japan's opposition parties maintained during parliamentary debate on Thursday that a controversial anti-terror conspiracy bill approved by the cabinet of Prime Minster Shinzo Abe remains a danger to the privacy of ordinary citizens and could unjustly punish civic groups and labor unions.

However, the ruling coalition bloc insists that the bill, which has been re-drafted three times, should be passed by the lower house by the end of this month, to be enacted into law following its passage through the upper house prior to the end of the current Diet session in June.(Japan-Parliamentary debate)

HONG KONG -- China needs to accelerate structural reforms to boost productivity and sustain growth momentum, says an Asian Development Bank (ADB) report released here Thursday.

In its Asian Development Outlook 2017, ADB projects gross domestic product (GDP) growth for China moderating to 6.5 percent in 2017 and 6.2 percent in 2018, from 6.7 percent last year.(Hong Kong-ADB report) Enditem
