Kenyan airline, Seychelles sign deal to promote tourism

Kenya Airways and the Seychelles Tourism Board signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to market the two destinations in Europe and in Africa on Tuesday.

Kenya Airways Managing Director Mbuvi Ngunze told a media briefing in Nairobi the agreement will ride on Kenya Airways' extensive destination network.

"The aim is to increase inbound tourist traffic into the two nations that have tourism products that complement each other," Ngunze said.

"By collaborating, we are likely to boost our tourism sectors as compared to working alone," the managing director added.

The MoU covers promoting intra-Africa tourism through joint marketing efforts, participation in events across Africa, and stakeholder education.

Kenya is known globally as a wildlife tourism destination while Seychelles has one of the best beach tourism products in the world.

Both nations signed Bilateral Air Service Agreement in 2015, that gives Kenya's national carrier the right to undertake unlimited trips to the island nation.

Ngunze said that Kenya Airways currently flies four times a week to Seychelles. "We want to stimulate more exchanges between the two countries so as to increase the frequency of Kenya Airways," he added.

Seychelles Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne said that the MOU will enable both nations undertake joint marketing public relations campaigns to potential tourists.

Loustau-Lalanne said that the agreement will also allow Seychelles to take fully utilize of Kenya Airways cargo capacity. "We can use the freight aircraft to exports our products to the rest of the world," he added.

"We will work together to come up with tourism-boosting strategies including incentive travels and holiday packages. We are excited by the possibilities offered by Kenya Airways and the supported accorded to us by Kenya," Loustau-Lalanne added.

The two Africa states are also planning to sign a MOU on comprehensive tourism cooperation in mid May. The Seychellois official stated that the agreement will focus on the development of new tourism products. Endit
