The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Friday.

-- Drastic changes to the Cabinet were made when President Jacob Zuma announced the Cabinet reshuffle after midnight on Friday morning. The new team is a mixed of young African National Congress (ANC) MPs.

The announcement follows a meeting late on Thursday with the Top Six leaders of the African National Congress in Pretoria. (South African Broadcasting Corporation).

-- ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has confirmed he is not happy with President Jacob Zuma's decision to fire Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. (Eyewitness News)

-- President Jacob Zuma fired Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and eight other cabinet members in a high-stakes power play that may threaten his own presidency and place the nation's investment grade credit rating at risk.
