Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Malki said Thursday that he hopes for "a balanced and constructive" American role in the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis.
Malki said during a meeting with Swedish peace envoy in West Bank city of Ramallah, Per Orneus, that the three way meeting held between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah Al-Hussein on the sidelines of the Arab League summit Wednesday came to coordinate the Arab position ahead of their meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump, separately, in April.
The top Palestinian diplomat said in an emailed press statement after the meeting that the Arab leaders confirmed that there would be no regional negotiations before reaching a comprehensive and just solution for the Palestinian cause.
He urged the European Union (EU) to play a conducive role to boost the peace process between both sides, effectively, highlighting the considerable role the EU can play internationally.
The peace talks between Israel and Palestine have ben stalled since April 2014. The U.S.-sponsored talks that lasted for nine months achieved no tangible results. Endit
