Chinese police have detained 132 people in connection with illegal manufacturing, sales and use of unlicensed telecommunication devices, the Ministry of Public Security said Thursday.
A total of 22 criminal gangs were busted and a large number of devices were seized in the latest campaign, with 98 pieces of equipment confiscated, the ministry said in a statement.
The suspects were found to have sent more than 5.56 million spam messages to mobile users via the devices, it said.
China has seen more criminal cases of this kind in past years. Internet fraud cases related to the use of unlicensed telecommunication devices account for 20 percent of the total fraud cases, it said.
The ministry will maintain high pressure on such criminal activities to protect people's property, it said. Endi
