Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has said that Malta's constitutional neutrality rules any possibility of Malta joining a future European Union (EU) army, Malta Today reported on Monday.
The Maltese prime minister reportedly made the remarks during a meeting with businesspeople at the Malta Chamber of Commerce headquarters.
Muscat however added that should other EU countries want to merge their armed forces into one single common army, Malta would not stand in their way.
Ways to strengthen the EU's common foreign and security policy are currently being debated. Earlier this month, EU member states agreed to set up new headquarters to supervise military training missions in Africa. Endit
