It has reached wide consensus inside the international community that any infringements on the interests and rights of children are detrimental.

A systematic protection for the rights of children which can prevent harm and harassment is expected to be established with a child focused, family centered and community based approach.

"Children should not be involved in the sexual relations which they cannot fully understand or be unable to show their discontents, those are defying laws and confronting social norms. Besides, those who were exposed to sexual relations with adults may suffer distorted views, and may perceive sex as a tool for transactions," Long warned.

"Children should be taught that they were born as creatures of values and that there are more valuable things other than sex," she continued, calling on families and the government to help rehabilitate children who have suffered from sexual abuse.

The Youth League has released several tips on preventing children from sexual abuse:

1) To educate children with self-protection knowledge to make them aware of potential dangers;

2) Not to post children's art photos on open internet platforms;

3) Do not leave children to be cared for by a man alone as the majority of pedophiles are men who target not only girls, but boys;

4) Don't dress the child in sexy clothing, and keep an eye on them when they are playing in public places;

5)Talk with children every day to know their problems and worries;

6) Do not allow anyone who spends the night at your home to sleep with your children;

7) Be alert to presents and money from unknown sources;

8) Call the police if your children are found with suspicious bruises or scars, or if they are behaving unusually.
