Extreme winds expected in Austria on Saturday: weather authority

Xinhua, March 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

Austria's weather authority has released a warning for extreme wind on Saturday, to reach up to 120km/h in some valley areas.

The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) said in a press release the foehn winds will primarily be felt in the west of the country.

Elevated areas will see even strong winds of typically over 100km/h, in some of the mountainous regions of Tyrol, Salzburg, and Vorarlberg even up to 160km/h.

At the anticipated speeds, trees can be blown over which in turn can cause problems on roads, rail tracks, and to power lines, as well as on roofing and construction scaffolding. Endit
