Bahrain proposes price unification of nutritional supplements in Gulf region

Bahrain announced on Friday a proposal to unify prices of nutritional supplements among Gulf countries, Bahrain News Agency reported.

The suggestion received initial approval and is expected to be enforced at the end of 2017.

Chief Executive of the National Health Regulatory Authority, Mariam Al Jalahma, said that a panel was formed a few months ago and discovered differences of prices of the same product in regional countries. "The proposal was tabled at the end of 2016 and it was supported by all Gulf countries," he added.

The proposal aims to provide nutritional supplements for affordable prices for citizens, as the unification of prices of medicines led to the reduction of the prices of some medicines by more than 70 percent, she highlighted.

Gulf countries have been taking serious steps to strengthen private health sectors to ease financial burdens on public health sector that offer free health services for citizens.

The measure is part of many others to deal with the shortage of revenues due to the price drop of oil in international markets. Endit
