Tokyo stocks open lower as market sentiment dented by Wall Street's overnight drop

Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday as U.S. shares dropping overnight dented investor sentiment here early on.

In the opening minutes of trade, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 4.82 points, or 0.02 percent, from Thursday to 19,559.98.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 1.01 points, or 0.06 percent, to 1,563.68.

Issues that notably lost ground in the opening minutes after the morning bell, comprised mining, oil and coal product, and bank-linked stocks. Endit
