Brazilian President appoints new foreign minister

Brazilian President Michel Temer on Thursday named Aloysio Nunes as the new foreign minister to replace Jose Serra, who stepped down last week for health reason.
The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Alexandre Parola, who said Nunes would take over on March 7.
Nunes is a close ally of Serra in the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) and was former head of the Senate's Committee on Foreign Affairs. He travelled to Washington during the impeachment process of former president Dilma Rousseff last summer to inform the U.S. government on Brazil's political future.
On Feb. 22, Serra presented his resignation, citing health problems that prevented him from making international travel demanded by the role.
Expectations are that Nunes will continue Serra's conservative positions, including a tough line on socialist government in the region. Enditem
