Murray beats Kohlschreiber in breath-taking Dubai Open quarter final

World's number one Andy Murray entered here on Thursday the semi-finals of the ATP tournament Dubai Duty Free (DDF) Tennis Championships by wining over Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-7 (4), 7-6 (18), 6-1.

After the match which lasted two hours and fifty-four minutes, Murray said, "This was an unbelievable match. A thirty-one minute tie-break ending 20-18 is just ridiculous. I never had such a tie-break in my life before."

Murray, who fired 14 aces (the German did four), also saved seven match points in the second tie-break.

Emotional as always, Murray argued several times with the referee, while the German appeared disciplined and self-controlled, but he did also a number of unforced errors during the second tie-break.

The match was balanced from the first to the last minute of the second set to the joy of the thousands of tennis fans in the DDF tennis stadium.

Kohlschreiber,33 the world's number 28, left the center court with his head down while the fans in the DDF tennis stadium cheered him standing ovations and applause.

Murray's chances to win the 25th Dubai open increased as defending DDF champion Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils were already out. Frenchman Monfils lost earlier in the day his quarter final against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 3-6, 5-7.

The finals of the Dubai open 2017 will take place on Saturday. The winner will take home 2.6 million dollar prize money. Endit
