French shares close flat Thursday

French shares closed almost flat on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.06 percent, or 2.97 points, to close at 4,963.80 points.

Only 14 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day. Engie SA, a French multinational electric utility company, soared 8.24 percent, becoming the biggest bluechip winner.

French water and waste group Veolia Environment advanced 2.6 percent. Cap Gemini, a French multinational information technology consulting firm, rose by 1.37 percent.

Steel giant ArcelorMittal lost 2.11 percent, becoming the biggest loser among the blue chips.

French industrial group Legrand dropped 1.14 percent. Saint-Gobain SA, a building and high-performance material company, went down 1.1 percent. Endit
