Poland will offer 1.5 million PLN (370,000 U.S. dollars) to help reconstruct and support hospitals in Syria, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo informed on Wednesday.
During a press conference, Szydlo informed that she had already signed a relevant decree releasing the sum from the country's humanitarian aid provision.
"We actively participate in providing assistance and support for humanitarian initiatives in Syria and in neighboring countries such as Lebanon, where the actual help is being brought," Szydlo said.
She also announced another 1.5 million euro (1.58 million U.S. dollars) would be dedicated to international aid for refugees. These funds will be paid into through UN, EU and within bilateral help frameworks.
Szydlo emphasized that the Polish government would never decline humanitarian aid projects. And it believes helping the needy in their country is most effective and efficient.
Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak also said being obliged to take in refugees who have entered Europe was not an effective way of helping people.
According to Szydlo, Poland spent 46 million PLN in 2016 to help those affected by conflicts in the Middle East. She said she ensured that Law and Justice government would secure more funds for further international aid this year. Enditem
