1st LD Writethru: 1 dead, 3 missing in Serbia ammunition depot explosions: official

One person died, three were missing while 25 others were injured during the two explosions at the ammunition depot in the city of Kragujevac in central Serbia on Tuesday, Serbian ministry of defense confirmed.

"One person has died, three were listed missing, while 25 members of Serbian Army and the interior ministry were injured in an explosion that took place during the action to extinguish the fire," the defense ministry said in a statement.

Serbian national broadcaster RTS reported that the first explosion at the depot used to store ammunition for dissembling and safe destruction took place here at around 1:30 p.m. local time while the second followed two hours later, while the fire was extinguished at around 5 p.m.

The defense ministry said the injured people were hospitalized at the Medical Centre in Kragujevac, and they are not in a life threatening situation.

Defense Minister Zoran Djordjevic arrived at the scene following the incident of which more details are not yet available to the public. Endit
