Xinhua, February 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning as a strong showing on Wall Street overnight coupled with a comparatively weak yen against the U.S. dollar contributed to an upbeat market mood, although some market jitters were evident ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's speech later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 131.27 points, or 0.69 percent, from Monday to 19,238.74.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 14.09 points, or 0.92 percent, at 1,548.09.

All industry categories on the main section advanced into positive territory by the morning break.

The most notable issues that advanced comprised oil and coal product, marine transportation and mining-linked stocks. Endit
