At least 10 people were killed and several others injured after a boat carrying them capsized in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said Monday.

The boat capsized on Sunday evening off the coast in Thoothukudi district, about 608 km south of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"Today, the death toll in boat tragedy has risen to 10 and several people who were rescued in injured condition are undergoing treatment," an official said. "The victims were tourists who had set off into the sea near Tuticorin district." (India-Boat Accident)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi at the White House, pledging to enhance bilateral high-level exchanges and cooperation in all areas.

Yang noted that President Xi not long ago held an important phone conversation with President Trump, which offered clear guidance on the direction of the development of the China-U.S. relations in the next stage.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump is seeking to increase U.S. defense spending by 10 percent, or 54 billion U.S. dollars, White House revealed Monday.

The money to boost military build-up may come from deep cuts to almost every non-security category, including foreign aid and domestic discretionary programs, according to White House officials.
