Road accident kills 3 in Morocco

Xinhua, February 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

Three people were killed and four others injured in a road accident early Sunday morning in a highway near the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The accident took place after a truck and a car collided, local authorities said, adding that the 46-year-old car driver died on the spot while a 24-year-old woman and her one-year-old baby died of injuries in the hospital.

The truck driver, a 38-year-old woman, and two children were injured.

The wounded were rushed into Rabat twin city Sale's Moulay Abdellah hospital.

Deadly traffic accidents are common in the North African country.

A total of 3,593 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in 2016, representing a slight increase than the year before, according to the Moroccan Transport Ministry.

Morocco has adopted a new strategy 2015-2025, vowing to reduce victims of road accidents by 50 percent. Endit
