1st LD: Saudi FM arrives in Baghdad on official visit

Xinhua, February 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister arrived on Saturday in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on an official visit, an Iraqi foreign minister official told Xinhua.

Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir is expected to meet with Iraqi top officials, including Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, to discuss means to boost bilateral ties and the war against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Jubeir visit in Baghdad is the first for a Saudi official on his level to the Iraqi capital since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

His visit also came as the Iraqi security forces backed by anti-IS international coalition are carrying out a major offensive to drive out the IS militants from their major stronghold in the western side of Mosul in northern Iraq. Endit
