DPK Korea wins first medal at Winter Asiad

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea won its first medal at the Asian Winter Games here on Saturday to become the only fifth country to have medaled in Sapporo.

Ryom Tae Ok/Kim Ju Sik claimed the bronze medal in the figure skating pairs event with one day left for the week-long Games.

The DPR Korean duo, third after the short program, received 112.18 points in Saturday's free skating for a total of 177.40 points. Chinese pair Yu Xiaoyu/Zhang Hao took the gold with 223.88 points and their compatriots Peng Cheng/Jin Yang had the silver with 197.06.

Host Japan tops the medal table, followed by South Korea, China and Kazakhstan. Endit
