Albania to eradicate phenomenon of cannabis cultivation this year: minister

Xinhua, February 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

The top priority of Albania's state police for this year will be cracking down on narcotic plant cultivation and trafficking, Albanian Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri told reporters Friday.

He said Albanian police would put an end to this phenomenon within 2017.

Tahiri further said that police had started massive operations against drug trafficking and cultivation in southern Albania and would do the same in the rest of the country.

Albanian police have currently launched a nationwide operation to try to prevent the planting of cannabis as well as identify plots where cannabis has already been planted.

A police statement confirmed that 3,100 officers were spread out around the country checking greenhouses, old army depots, and tunnels or abandoned houses where cannabis seeds and small plants may have been hidden. Endit
