Malta to continue support for BiH EU path: FM

Xinhua, February 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Malta will continue to strongly support Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)'s road towards the European Union membership, visiting Maltese foreign minister George W. Vella said Thursday.

Vella made the comment after a meeting with BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Crnadak, adding that he is confident that BiH is capable of meeting all the requirements on its path towards the EU.

Special attention will be focused on the issues of the rule of law, economic development and public administration reform, Vella said.

For his part, Crnadak expressed hope that BiH would gain EU candidate status by the end of this year or early next year.

On Jan. 1 this year, Malta took over the six-month rotating presidency for the Council of the EU.

On Feb. 15 last year, BiH formally submitted its application to join the EU. The EU's 28 member states on Sept. 20 2016 accepted BiH's membership application. Endit
