Le Pen's chief of staff placed under formal investigation over EU fund misuse probe: report

The chief of staff of French far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen was placed under formal investigation on Wednesday as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of European Union (EU) funds, a local daily reported.

Earlier on Wednesday, Catherine Griset had been grilled by judicial police over salaries she had received for her work as Le Pen's parliamentary assistant, Le Figaro said on its website citing a judicial source.

Griset was put into custody along with Le Pen's bodyguard Thierry Legier, who was later released, it added. Endit
