Nigerian police deploy special forces to northern state

Xinhua, February 23, 2017 Adjust font size:

Police authority in Nigeria has deployed the Police Special Forces to end renewed clashes in the northwestern state of Kaduna, a top officer said Wednesday.

The Special Forces have been mandated to flush out perpetrators of the violence wherever they are and restore peace in the area within the shortest possible time, Aghole Abeh, police chief in charge of the state told reporters.

The police chief said the aerial surveillance is to detect movement of criminal elements who in most cases are responsible for attacks on remote farm settlements.

According to him, the police force is determined to deal decisively with any person or group of persons who are either engaged or found to be fueling the embers of discord.

The commissioner advised law abiding citizens to be watchful and report any suspicious movement or activities likely to breach the peace to the police and other security agencies in the state.

More than 200 people have been killed in violence around southern Kaduna since late last year, according to Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency. Endit
