Critical injuries after tour bus crash in New Zealand

Xinhua, February 22, 2017 Adjust font size:

Two people are reported to be critically injured and five others seriously hurt after a tour bus and a car collided near a New Zealand scenic attraction Wednesday.

Police said the vehicles collided and the bus went down a bank near the historic Akaroa Peninsula, just south of the South Island city of Christchurch.

Initial information suggested a number of passengers have minor injuries.

Two rescue helicopters were being used alongside ambulances to take the injured to Christchurch Hospital.

Cruise New Zealand board member Mark Kinchley told Radio New Zealand that the passengers on the bus were on a shore excursion from the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship, which arrived in Akaroa the same day.

The cruise ship carried 2,850 passengers, plus another 1,250 crew, said the report.

No information was available on the nationalities of the tourists involved. Enditem
