Tokyo stocks open mixed as investors opt for profits

Tokyo stocks opened mixed on Wednesday as some investors opted to lock in gains made following the market's recent rise.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 5.90 points, or 0.03 percent, from Tuesday to 19,375.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.16 points, or 0.01 percent, to 1,555.76.

Notable decliners in early trade comprised pulp and paper, securities and land transportation-linked stocks. Endit
