Bayi tie Shenbu 2-2 in WCBA semifinals

Bayi defeated Shenbu 75-71 at home on Tuesday to tie 2-2 in the best-of-five semifinals of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league.

Both teams played strong defense in the first quarter where the hosts took a slight lead 15-10. Then Jin Jiabao stood up behind the arc to help Shenbu fight back with a 23-13 burst in the second quarter.

Bayi slowly gained the upper hand after the halftime, and stormed ahead with a surge of 27-12 for a 10-point advantage into the last quarter. The visitors once cut the deficit to four but still failed in the last minutes and lost the match by four.

Sun Mengran, the center at the national team, had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds for Bayi, and Sun Mengxin added 20 points, while Jin Jiabao led Shenbu with 22 points, and Zhao Shuang also had an impressive performance of 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and seven steals.

The do-or-die match will be played at Dandong, Liaoning on Thursday, with the winner facing defending champion Beijing in the final. Endit
