More businesses benefiting from gov't support policies: survey

Xinhua, February 21, 2017 Adjust font size:

More companies in China are benefiting from government's support policies, an official survey showed on Tuesday, as the business environment improves.

In a survey of 90,000 companies, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) found 25.7 percent received government support in the fourth quarter in 2016, up 2.8 percentage points from the the third quarter.

Pharmaceuticals, special-purpose equipment, automobiles and instrumentation were among the sectors that enjoyed the widest scope of benefits.

Coal-miming, tobacco, clothes, furniture and oil processing industries reported less benefits.

Among the satisfied companies, 46 percent said they had profited from government support for innovation, and 43.5 percent said they gained from reduced taxes and fees.

To help businesses during the economic slowdown, China has introduced policies including tax cuts, lower financing costs and streamlined government functions.

While those moves are showing some effects, the survey also revealed that of the businesses reporting benefits, only 21.2 percent were small firms, compared with a 26.8-percent proportion for medium-sized companies and a 36.2-percent share for large businesses.

"Current policies still have room for improvement," the NBS noted. Endi
