Tokyo stocks rose from the bell on Tuesday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar added support, although many investors took a wait-and-see-approach as markets were closed in the U.S. for a national holiday.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 46.31 points, or 0.24 percent, from Monday to 19,297.39.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 2.79 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,549.80.
Notable issues that gained from the bell comprised pulp and paper, mining and machinery-linked issues. Endit
