Light plane crashes into building beside Melbourne airport

A light plane crashed into a building near Essendon Airport in Melbourne on Tuesday, causing a major explosion.

Police said the light plane crashed into a shopping precinct at Essendon Fields about 09:00 a.m. local time.

Early reports suggested five people were aboard the Beechcraft charter plane and and they were heading for King Island, a golf and food tourist destination off the coast of Victoria.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics are currently responding to the incident. Endit
