Thai splinter party boss confident of success in national reconciliation bid

Xinhua, February 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

A leading, veteran Thai politician said on Thursday he was positively confident of success in a national reconciliation effort currently carried out by the government under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Suwat Liptapanlop, the de facto leader of the splinter Chart Pattana (Developed Nation) Party, told reporters following Wednesday's meeting with a subcommittee under the Administrative Committee of the Framework of National Reform, Strategy and Reconciliation that he strongly believed the Prayut government can finally make it.

"Given the government's sincerity and determination, we strongly believe the reconciliation effort will very likely be successful," Suwat said.

The de facto Chart Pattana leader, who had been named member of previous cabinets over the last several years, said his party had proposed suggestions toward the reconciliation bid to the subcommittee chaired by Defense Ministry Undersecretary Chaicharn Changmongkol.

The subcommittee, primarily assigned to collect politicians' viewpoints toward the national reconciliation issue, is scheduled to meet with Chart Thai Pattana (Developed Thailand) Party and Democrat Party on Thursday and Friday respectively. Endit
