Tokyo shares open higher on strong U.S. stocks

Tokyo shares opened higher Tuesday on strong U.S. stocks overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 33.88 points, or 0.17 percent, from Monday to 19,493.03.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.07 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,558.27.

Gainers were led by rubber product, nonferrous metal, and pulp and paper issues. Endit
