Latvian PM stresses significance of teamwork on gov't anniversary

Xinhua, February 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis, whose cabinet marked its first year in office, said on Monday that he was proud of his team's performance.

Asked to assess his ministers' job performance, Kucinskis said: "Teamwork has been my main source of pride over the past year."

The prime minister said he would not give grades to his ministers because this would affect their work as a team.

Talking to the press after a meeting of Latvia's tripartite coalition, Kucinskis described the government's achievements as "good enough" and said that nobody should be ashamed to look back at the work done over the past year.

Kucinskis admitted that there are still some reforms that would require additional efforts or bolder decisions.

At a cabinet sitting on Tuesday, Kucinskis will report on the implementation of the government's action plan, which was adopted when his cabinet took office a year ago.

Lawmakers approved the Kucinskis-led government on Feb. 11, 2016. Kucinskis was the first representative of the centrist Greens and Farmers Union to become Latvian prime minister since 2004. Enditem
