Spanish PM, new EP president talks about Brexit challenges in Madrid

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy discussed the challenges brought by Brexit with visiting President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani at his official residence on Friday.

It is one of the first official visits made by Tajani since his election on Jan. 17.

The Spanish prime minister's office said that during the meeting, Rajoy and Tajani talked about some of the key issues of European affairs, such as the challenge presented by Brexit and the role of the European Parliament should play in the Brexit process.

The two also looked ahead to some of the elections due to be held in Europe this year, such as those in France and the Netherlands, "with special attention to the electoral process in France," as well as the political climate in Italy. Endit
