Macedonia's new gov't should be formed on solid, broad basis: EU commissioner

Xinhua, February 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

It is very important the new government in Macedonia is formed on a solid and broad basis and that all political parties respect democratic decisions, European Union (EU) commissioner for enlargement negotiations Johannes Hahn told a press conference here on Thursday.

Hahn clearly expressed that his visit to Macedonia wasn't to put forward proposals, but rather to listen to party leaders and encourage them to find a solution.

In this regard, EU commissioner highlighted that Macedonia had achieved a lot and that the formation of a government was the next step.

"It is up to Macedonia's politicians to make the final decision, which is very important. Perhaps election results took someone by surprise, but now a government should be formed," Hahn said at the press conference.

During his visit, the EU commissioner is scheduled to meet the leaders of the political parties represented in parliament. Endit
