Bahrain says arrests fugitives involved in jailbreak

Xinhua, February 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

Bahraini authorities said Thursday that fugitives involved in a recent jailbreak were arrested when they were trying to flee in a boat.

"The trafficking of terrorist fugitives involved in the (Jan. 1) jailbreak" was foiled in a joint operation, Bahrain's Interior Ministry said in a statement.

"Preliminary joint investigation indicates fugitive boat was heading to Iran," the statement said, adding that further details will be soon announced.

Ten terror convicts escaped from the country's main prison facility in Jaw last month, with the help of armed men who killed a policeman.

The 10 were all convicted in previous terrorist cases; some were serving 73-79 year sentences. Endit
