The Polish cities of Krakow and Katowice will host a congress of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in June 2018, with an expected 450 delegates from 200 cities attending, the Polish Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The cities which currently make up this network work together to place creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperate actively at the international level. The network covers seven creative fields: crafts and folk arts, media arts, film, design, gastronomy, literature and music.
"City authorities and residents consider culture a significant development element which can improve the quality of life of inhabitants of every town," Secretary General of the Polish UNESCO committee Slawomir Ratajski told reporters on Wednesday.
Krakow was the first Polish city to join the network in 2013. It was followed by Katowice in 2015. Endit
