FC Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano will miss the first leg of the club's Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain after picking up a hamstring injury in their King's Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

The Argentinean ended the game which ended in a 1-1 draw between Barca and Atletico Madrid to give Barca a 3-2 aggregate win, with 28 minutes remaining and lasted to the end of a tense affair which was in the balance until the final whistle.

However, his efforts came at a price as the club confirmed he has suffered an injury in his left hamstring and although the Barca website explains "his progress will mark his availability," Mascherano will miss this weekend's trip to play Alaves as well as the trip to Paris and most likely the home game against Leganes the following weekend.

Meanwhile the club has announced it will appeal against the second yellow card Luis Suarez was shown at the end of Tuesday's game in an attempt to overturn the sending off which will see him to miss the final.

However, the striker could face further punishment after post-match comments in which he criticized referee Gil Manzano, who in turn wrote in his post-game report that Suarez had refused his instructions to leave the field once he had been sent off. Endit
