Xinhua, February 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Russia defeated host Kazakhstan 1-0 in the men's ice hockey final to claim the gold medal here on Wednesday, the last day of the 28th Winter Universiade.

The ice hockey final, which finished hours before the closing ceremony of the Universiade, was so tight that the two teams could not manage to score a goal in the first two periods.

Daniil Ilin of Russia broke the even in the 41st minute. Kazakhstan called a time-out in the last minutes but still could not find a way to equal the scoreboard.

Earlier on Wednesday, Canada scored twice in two minutes in the second period to beat the Czech Republic 4-3 in a bronze medal play-off. Endit
