Russia wins men's cross-country skiing at Universiade

Dmitriy Rostovtsev of Russia won the men's mass start 30km classic style of cross-country skiing in the 28th Winter Universiade which concluded here on Wednesday.

Rostovtsev clocked one hour 19 minutes and 37.5 second to take the 28th gold medal for the Russian delegation, while his compatriot Valeriy Gontar earned a silver medal with 1:19:37.8.

Gontar and Rostovtsev took the lead from the beginning, followed by two Kazakhstan skieer Sergey Malyshev and Vitaliy Pukhkalo.

There were 66 athletes from 20 countries and regions started the competition, but 14 of them were out of the race in the third round. And only 46 athletes finished the marathon skiing race.

The four skiers led all the time and Rostovtsev beat other three in the final sprint to win the gold.

Malyshev fell behind just before the finish line and ranked third at 1:19.38.0. Endit
