Austrian economy to see continued upswing: economic institute

The Austrian economy is to see a continued growth upswing in the upcoming months with the back of strong domestic demand, the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) said on Tuesday.

Economic indicators showed the upswing, which has been apparent since early 2015 and accelerated in the latter half of 2016, will continue to expand, WIFO said in its February economic report.

Along with a steady improvement in private consumption which was recorded till the final quarter of 2016, the research institute also pointed out the positive contributions company investments have brought to growth.

In addition, surveys it conducted in January showed companies generally giving a positive assessment of the economy.

WIFO also pointed out positive economic indicators globally, including for the European Union, China and the United States. Endit
