Negotiators of the European Parliament, European Union (EU) member states and the European Commission on Tuesday for the first time reached an agreement related to the modernization of EU copyright rules.
According to this agreement, Europeans would soon enjoy their online subscriptions to culture and entertainment services, such as films, video games and music, the same way they access them at home when traveling within the bloc.
Andrus Ansip, Vice-President in charge of the Digital Single Market, welcomed the agreement saying that this was a new important step in breaking down barriers in the DSM.
According to a European Commission statement, half of the people, aged between 15 and 39, thought that access to the services they subscribe when traveling within EU was important.
The agreement has to be formally confirmed by the European Council and the European Parliament. Once approved, it will enter into effect in all member states by the beginning of 2018.
The Digital Single Market strategy was adopted on May 6, 2015 and aims to open up digital opportunities for people and business. Endit
