Poll: Spanish PM's party enjoys popularity

The People's Party (PP) of Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy would once again be the winner if a general election were to be held in Spain, with the same 33 percent of the vote they polled in the last election in June 2016, a poll showed on Tuesday.

According to the quarterly barometer of public opinion published by Spain's Center for Sociological Investigation (CIS), the results come as the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) continues without a leader, with the left-wing party Podemos remains locked in a power struggle between Pablo Iglesias and Inigo Errejon.

Rajoy formed a minority government with the center-right Ciudadanos and the tacit support of the PSOE at the end of October last year.

According to the poll, PSOE gets 18.6 percent of the vote, 1.6 percent up on their last showing, but still down on the 22.6 percent from the June 2016 election.

Meanwhile, Podemos are on 21.7 percent, just 0.1 percent down on four months ago, despite their internal divisions.

Ciudadanos' support dropped from 12.8 percent to 12.4 percent.

Sixty-six percent of those questioned described the current political situation as either "bad or very bad" and with almost 70 percent predicting that the situation will be the same or even worse. Endit
