Large stocks recovery lifts Nairobi bourse turnover

Some 51 million shares valued at 9.1 million U.S. dollars were traded at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Monday, up from 32.5 million worth 6.5 million dollars, boosted by rising prices of 13 large stocks.

Safaricom led the list of rising shares. The leading telecom vibrantly moved 24.4 million shares at a high of 0.18 dollars, a surge of 1.3 percent. This accounted for 51 percent of today's turnover. In the last session, the telecom traded 14 million shares.

In the second position was Cooperative Bank as it moved 11.4 million shares at 0.1 dollars, an increase of 1.3 percent.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) went up 1.3 percent to 0.24 dollars as it moved 5.5 million shares.

Kenya Power and Barclays Bank closed the top five stocks as they moved 2.3 million and 2.1 million shares respectively, with prices rising 0.7 percent and 1.3 percent.

The share price increases lifted the NSE 20 Share Index by 5 points to 2,867.39. The All Share Index (NASI) gained 0.87 points to 125.06 while the NSE 25 Share Index was up 23.34 points to 3,223.10.

The bond market has securities worth 11 million dollars transacted compared to 12 million dollars posted in the previous session. Endit
