The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Monday.

-- Without the bodies of their loved ones, the families of the three victims of the Lily Mine disaster will not find closure, the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) said on Sunday.

Yvonne Mnisi, Pretty Nkambule and Solomon Nyirenda were last year trapped in a container swallowed by tons of rock and soil when a supporting pillar underground collapsed. (News24).

-- The South African mining industry should get "less stick" and "more carrot" from Mines Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, said Peter Leon, global co-chair of Herbert Smith Freehills.

Leon was speaking at a media conference ahead of the 2017 Mining Indaba, which starts on Monday in Cape Town and will extend until Feb. 9. (Fin24).
