Ukraine pair wins ice dance in Universiade

Ukrainian pair Alexandra Nazagova/Maksim Nikitin cruised to victory in the ice dance event at the 2017 Almaty Winter Universiade here on Saturday.

The Ukrainian pair scored 165.62 points to win the title. Russian Sofiya Evdokimova/Egor Bazin ranked second with 156.96 while Shari Koch/Nuechtern Christian of Germany third with 154.00.

"We thought we could win a medal in the ice dance competition," said the head of the Ukraniane delegation, Vadim Stetsenko.

"But we were not confident to win a gold one. Maksim and Alexandra impressed with their performance. I'd like to thank Kazakh people for warm hospitality and cheering of the Ukrainian pair."

Chinese pairs Guo Yuzhu/Zhao Pengkun and Wang Xiaotong/Zhao Kaige ranked 11th and 13th respectively. Endit
