Rainstorm rips off roof of Ghana's Parliament

Severe rainstorms which hit parts of Ghana ripped off parts of the roof of the country's parliament house here late Tuesday.
The rain which started just after dusk on Tuesday was accompanied by severe storm which also caused havoc to private property across the capital.
Plastic receptacles had to be positioned on desks and other parts in the chamber of the House to collect water that was pouring through the damage in the roofs.
The chamber of parliament, which was refurbished in 2014, saw some electrical gadgets at the mercy of the pouring rain.
Photos and video footages from local media showed the chamber with water pouring onto the desks and on the carpeted floor.
The edifice was built in 1965 as Kwame Nkrumah Conference Center but was converted into the seat of Parliament in 1993 with current capacity to hold 275 members.
The house had just adjourned proceedings when the incident occurred. Endit
