Car sales surge in France in January

French car sales hit 153,055 units in January 2017, up 10.6 percent from January 2016, French Car Sales Federation announced Wednesday.

Sales of domestic brands grew by 10.8 percent in January 2017 with 83,174 vehicles sold, said the federation in its monthly report.

France's largest car manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroen sold 47,056 new cars in January 2017, up 9.7 percent compared with the same month last year.

Renault, the second-biggest automaker in France, saw its sales expand by 12.6 percent during the same period.

Sales of foreign brands stood at 69,881 vehicles in January 2017, up 10.3 percent, with Ford and Hyundai taking the lead. Their sales jumped by 39.2 percent and 22.6 percent respectively. Endi
