Tokyo stocks drop from the bell on U.S. shares' retreat, yen's rise

Tokyo stocks dropped from the bell on Tuesday mirroring losses on Wall Street overnight, with a comparative firm yen against the U.S. dollar impacting exporter-linked issues.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 219.79 points, or 1.13 percent, from Monday to 19,149.06.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 17.14 points, or 1.11 percent, to 1,526.63.

Notable issues that declined early on comprised electric power and gas, bank and land transportation-linked stocks. Endit
